Celebrating food, family, and the community
Taste of Ethiopia is a family owned restaurant located in Southfield, Michigan. The restaurant, owned by Meski and Kassa, opened in 2005. Prior to opening in the Metro Detroit area, Meski owned a restaurant in Toronto, Canada for seven years during late 1980’s. At the time, the location was well known in the community and everyone loved the food and fellowship that took place. In the early 90’s the restaurant closed.
In August 2005 Taste of Ethiopia opened its doors and the response was and still is positive. For the past decade, the restaurant has served over thousands of people in the Metro Detroit area. Meski + Kassa has created an atmosphere that is like family for the community and customers. Understanding the importance of community and the youth, Meski and Kassa mentor and create community efforts for the youth and their families. This includes hosting education sessions, dinners, meet and greet events, and family events.
The restaurant has won numerous awards and been featured in publications such as Metro Times, The Oakland Press, The Detroit Free Press, and more. Their food is also packaged and sold in Michigan food retailers such as Natural Food Patch, Organic Food and Vitamin Center, and Zerbo’s Health Food.
Whether customers come for dinner, the lunch buffet, take out, a fresh juice or smoothie, or to reflect over a warm cup tea, the experience will excite your five senses. When you walk into Taste of Ethiopia, you will smell exotic spices, hear traditional music, see a rich authentic culture, touch our unique bread (Injera) and taste healthy food. We invite you to come in and experience the rich culture of Ethiopia.
Our doors are always open. Welcome to our family.
